Summary, Part 4 (final) CLOSING QUESTIONS: 1. WHAT IS THE CITY OF YOUR CITIZENSHIP? Natural citizenship is determined at birth, but spiritual citizenship in the City of God is determined at the second birth. How many birthdays do you have? 2. WHICH GOD DO YOU SERVE? If it is not God the Son, then it doesn’t really matter which god you serve: you are not a citizen of the City of God. What blessings does your god offer you in this life, and what promises does he offer for eternity? Christ came to destroy the works of the devil, to welcome the heirs to Hell to become heirs to Heaven. Who you serve now determines where you will live for eternity. 1 THESSALONIANS 1:9-10. When Christ returns, the word “opportunity” will be stricken from the dictionary. The question is not whether you serve a god, because you do, but which one? 3. WHAT IS YOUR ETERNAL DESTINY? Bliss with God’s people, or flames and torment with the devil? ISAIAH 26:21, 25:12: this world is bound for dust, then fire.

Summary, Part 3 B) He is MAJESTIC (verse 10): only His people can see this; the wicked cannot see it despite the favor they receive. ROMANS 1:20-23: Despite God’s fingerprints being everywhere, the fallen mistake the Creation for Him and need Him to open their eyes to the truth (1 CORINTHIANS 2:14-15). C) God is GLORIOUS (verse 15): the Creation glorifies Him, not the other way around as the world understands it; angels and saints live to glorify Him (EXODUS 15:11). D) He is OMNIPOTENT (verses 5, 11, and 14): He brings down his proud enemies, shames them, and punishes, destroys, and obliterates them (JOB 18:17, PSALM 9:5-6, PROVERBS 10:7, and PSALM 112:6 by contrast). E) He is ALL-GRACIOUS (verses 12 and 15): He brings perfect peace to they who trust in Him and does all the necessary work for this and welcomes all to His nation (verse 15, and 25:6). F) He is a DELIVERER (verses 4 and 16): whether in peace or chastening, God is our Rock: our towering, everlasting source of strength and life.

Summary, Part 2 The gods of the nations have no power because they have no existence except in men’s imaginations: 1 CORINTHIANS 10:19-20: ungodly sacrifices cannot be to God, but only to demons; PSALM 115:1-8: the folly of idolatry: the ungodly sacrifice to things of their own making; the conclusion at verse 8 is as logically necessary as it is illuminating. On the other hand, the Christian is conformed to the image of Christ. In contrasting the cities in ISAIAH 26:1 and 5, Isaiah is contrasting real strength with imagined strength; in fact, there is no movement from the City of God to the City of Man: God snatches the Elect out of the hands of Satan, but Satan has no power to get them back. The City of God enjoys peace with God, but the City of Man lives with the dread of God; their god Satan is destined for eternal destruction. Furthermore, God is utterly different from the god of this world: Satan is the prince of darkness, but God is Light itself. Among God’s attributes in ISAIAH 26: A) He is RIGHTEOUS (verse 7): the standard of moral perfection; because He is upright, we can always count on Him to do what is right. DEUTERONOMY 32:4: all His ways are just: beyond moral scrutiny. God’s ways are straight and smooth, so His people walk prepared.

Summary, Part 1 Citizenship is important not only to temporal and national issues, but to spiritual issues as well, and the Bible speaks much about it. It says that we are citizens either of the City of God or the City of Man. Today we examine the contrasts between THE GODS THEY WORSHIP. Our political leaders may represent us, but they do not necessarily characterize us. However, our gods do. JOHN 8:44 tells us that until we are delivered by Christ, we are the children of the devil; 2 CORINTHIANS 4:4 defines Satan as the god of this world; 1 JOHN 5:19 says that the whole world (apart from Christians) lies in the power of the evil one. In fact, his grasp on them is so powerful that they don’t even realize that they are being animated by him. Satan tries to imitate God’s light, and so the “enlightened” of this world don’t realize who is actually giving them light; they even accuse Christians of being the ones walking in darkness! Satan doesn’t lead men into the truth, but away from it. False religions, spiritual and secular, are Satan’s blinding of men to the truth (2 CORINTHIANS 4). 2 TIMOTHY 2:25-26: until God calls us to repentance, we are willing captives of the devil, being led to do his will. Only the Gospel points men to God because it is from God (ACTS 26:14-18).
