Jesus concluded his sermon on the mount with a striking contrast as concerned the basic issue. That issue being what is necessary to become a believer and consequently enter into the coming kingdom over which He will rule and reign.
In His final comments He drove home the most important point with the warning that it is not necessarily those who verbally acknowledge Him as Lord who will be saved. Those who enter into the kingdom will not only acknowledge Him as Lord, but will also live a life of obedience to God's Word. Genuine salvation changes a life from the inside out resulting in a life of obedience and submission to God. People who do not want to live for Jesus have not genuinely trusted in Him.
Scripture testifies that Satan can empower his “teachers” to do any, and all, of the “supernatural” things false teachers are able to do. The final test for all their claims to be a follower of Christ was, and is, the Word of God.
He concludes His sermon forewarning that only the life that is built upon Him as the foundation will stand at the time of judgment.
