I have been encouraged by a very hopeful sign that I have seen lately in some of our evangelical circles. Instead of the once strident appeals to fellow Christians to “get involved” in the political process and “take back our country” and culture “for God,” a growing number of believers are now conceding that only God can heal our nation's ills! A humbler, more plaintive, and less militant tone is beginning to be heard. Our text, 2 Chronicles 7:14, is being quoted with the appeal to become humble, broken, and contrite before God. This, I believe, is what God is looking for!
The moral ills of our country are many and serious! The times are desperate, but are we? We as Christians in America must lead the way back to God! Judgment must “begin at the house of God” (1 Pet. 4:17). What will it take to make us fall on our knees? Although the plague of God's judgment has already broken out among us, it may not be too late to entreat Him in His infinite mercy to “heal our land” once again!
