The qualifications for the Aaronic Priesthood were external. 1) He had to be legitimate in his birth. 2) He had to have a mother AND father that was a Levite. 3) He could have no physical defects.
Kent Hughes states there are 142 physical blemishes in Leviticus that could disqualify a man from being a priest.
