Aunque Dios se reveló a sí mismo ante el hombre (vv. 19-20), el hombre rechazó a Dios (v. 21) y después justificó con razonamientos ese rechazo (v. 22; cp. v. 18b), para después crear a su antojo dioses substitutos (v. 23). Debido a que el hombre abandonó a Dios, Dios abandonó a los hombres, los entregó.
