How we conduct ourselves in our daily walk is the concern of the second half of Ephesians. We have a oneness with believers in the world but we manifest the unity clearest in the local church. Oneness and unity doesn't mean there isn't diversity.
We function with harmony but we will function with our own individual purpose. The gift of the Spirit to each one allows him to function in the body of Christ. Every believer is gifted, according to the measure Christ's gift. This enables the body to function more effectively. The Triune God has appointed every believer a special enablement. Gifts have nothing to do with a believer's merit. If you are unhappy with God's gift, then you have to bring yourself into submission to Him. Your gifts become obvious as you serve in the Church.
An unbeliever can't function as part of the body because he doesn't have the Spirit. Every believer is a part of the body, an unbeliever never is. Gifts are given to build up the body. There are no insignificant gifts from the victorious Christ.
Additional verses referenced in this study of spiritual gifts include: Romans 12:3-6, 1 Corinthians 12:4-7 and 1 Peter 4:10-11.
