You can be a person who gives a lot of money away, yet still not be a generous person. Generous giving is driven by Christian joy. Christians have a reason to be generous. Christian giving brings about an amazing result, in the same way that sowing seed produces a real crop. People are not generally confused about the idea of growing an investment account, but they do become confused about how generous giving can have any benefit. True generosity comes from the heart and it is the heart attitude that makes it valuable. This kind of giving produces a real harvest. But there is a problem. There is a kind of giving today that expects the wrong kind of harvest. We reject this. Rather, the biblical kind of generosity pleases God. That is the first reward. The "prosperity gospel" misses this. Rather, the Bible warns those who desire to be rich, that they are living dangerously. True giving is not about the love of money, but the love of God. That is a real motivation for the true Christian. We know that God can and will provide for our needs, therefore, we are free to give generously. He can and does give so generously that we are satisfied. Completely. Yet this all-sufficiency is not gained through holding on to what we get. The purpose of this way in which God works, is that we are able to pour out more on other people. He keeps replenishing your supply so that you can keep meeting your desire to give. A righteous person's lifestyle is a giving lifestyle. The harvest is a harvest of righteousness, not financial wealth. Do you want to start? Look at what you have and start giving. It is not about how much, it is about your heart. God is glorified.
