If Christ has paid for all my sins why must I die? Die physically? Why have we got to go through the fearful and sometimes painful experience? Why doesn’t God transfer us to heaven immediately or transition us there painlessly?
And what happens when I die before the End? Where do we go? What will it be like? What will we do? Will I sort of soul sleep? Will I be unconscious? Will I know what’s going on? What about the wicked? Where do they go before the last judgment? Are they annihilated? Do they go to purgatory?
We come now to the subject of individual eschatology. Individual eschatology answers the question what happens to people who die before the last day? What happens to them before the 2nd coming and the resurrection of the dead? What happens to those who die, in-between, before the end?
What we are considering in individual eschatology is Physical death, the immortality of the soul, and the intermediate state.
