The first 18 verses of John's Gospel for a kind of introduction to the whole book. These verses establish the person of Jesus as the Messiah promised in the Old Testament. John's purpose for writing the Gospel is found in John 20:30 and 31. The uniqueness of John is seen in the perpetual conflict that Jesus has with the religious leaders of the nation, the Jews. If anyone is to be saved and be joined to Christ and the Father, he must believe that Jesus is the Christ and gain His life, eternal life.
