The Bible gives us a thorough diagnosis of our condition before God. In it we learn that man's descent from God consistently follows a threefold pattern, rejection; replacement and then reprobation. What we might ask does this tell us about mankind, and about God Himself? Indeed, to actually know God, and to learn about Him we need the Gospel, and the full knowledge of what that means only comes by special revelation.
In Romans 1:21 we are told this - "Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful.....". By and large man has willingly and knowingly suppressed the knowledge of God, and has 'changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever " (Romans 1:25). Man has been separated from God because of sin. There is only one way back, the Gospel of Jesus Christ is the answer.
What then defines our lives? Is it that we live a life of thankfulness, indeed is our dependence upon God expressed in thankfulness for what He has done in Christ? |
