The Election, Discipline and Remuneration of Elders and Deacons:
The scriptures explicitly describe the apostolic process for the appointment of Deacons (congregational vote), and 1 Timothy 14:23 (in the original language) allows us to extend this procedure to the eldership. We recognize that this process is not a "contest", but rather a ratification of the work of the Head of the Church in fitting men for the offices. Using the analogy of Scripture, we recognize and implement a similar mechanism for confirming and removing men from the office who have declined to the extent where they are no longer qualified for office.
Those men in the pastoral ministry ought to expect to earn a living from that ministry. The general principle of "sharing all good things" (Galatians 6:6) ought to be found in every congregation. Liberal support was the model of the early church, and a completely organized New Testament church should know the same.
