Even though He was rejected by men, God has made our Lord Jesus the head of the corner! It is all the Lord's doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes!
Indeed, there is great rejoicing by the saints in the establishment of the Gospel of salvation. Even though we were grieved by our Lord's death, when He was raised in power and glory, then we knew that it had all been the Lord's doing!
But it is not marvelous in the sight of all men. Those who reject the cornerstone see nothing marvelous in our Lord Jesus at all.
Therein lies another of the Lord's doings that is marvelous to us: that He has exalted the cornerstone in our hearts, and brought us to repentance and faith.
Christ becoming the cornerstone unto salvation for each of us individually is a marvelous work of God in each of us.
Therefore, there is marvel heaped upon marvel at the exaltation of Christ: marvel that God did it, and marvel that we see it and receive it and rejoice in it! Both the work of God generally in establishing Christ, and the work of God specifically in His people, both are marvelous to us!
When we recall that most men do not receive it, and it is not marvelous to them at all, then we cannot help but marvel that God has made us to see it and rejoice in it.
To most men, Christ is but a stumbling stone and rock of offense, but to those who believe, He is precious.
We believe in Christ's Gospel because God has chosen us, and not we Him. It is all of His grace and His election, else we would have been amongst those who stumbled.
We were all dead because of our sin, but God made us alive again by the Spirit's mighty power, and implanted faith in His Son unto our salvation!
