The triad of terror is sword, famine, and pestilence. This triad is found 27 times in the OT—17 in Jeremiah, 7 in Ezekiel, with one each in Leviticus 26:25 (the ground for all subsequent references), 1 Chronicles 21:12, and 2 Chronicles 20:7–9. Because Israel and Judah broke covenant with God, He punished them with this terrible triad. The only mention of it in the NT is Revelation 6:7 and 8. This message argues that Israel's failure to keep covenant was allowed because the Lord desired to establish a new people—a new creation in the Last Adam, Jesus Christ, under a new covenant (the law of Christ), who worship God in the true temple (the church of the living God). This is the kingdom of God that will be eternal. |
