The people in Israel, during the days when Jesus walked the earth, were a people described as being distressed, dispirited, weary, heavy laden, and burdened. Jesus said that His yoke was easy and His burden was light. We get to see and understand what He means when He says this in the context of Sabbath observance. Some would make His law a burdensome thing, and others would have us ignore the Sabbath altogether, again enslaving us to our flesh. Jesus IS the Lord of the Sabbath!
