Having already laid out a number of important considerations concerning Christian giving in Chapter 8, the apostle Paul goes on here to speak of giving as the sowing of seed in expectation of a harvest. These verses teach 1) The rule of proportion in sowing; 2) The manner in which one is to sow; and 3) The harvest to be reaped. One will reap a bountiful harves when sows boutifully, and a sparing harvest when one sows sparingly. The sermon shows that not only the amount matters in relation to one's resources, but also the attitude or spirit in which one gives. All should sow bountifully, and the harvest is amazing! Importantly, one's giving ought to be done in the light of God's unspeakable gift to poor sinners.
