To us, reading a genealogy (unless it is our own family record) is painfully boring. It is like going through the scrolling credits at the end of a movie: we know each of the persons whose names appear deserve recognition for the part they played, but we do not see how they affect us.
Jesus' family tree, outlined in Matthew 1:1-17, is to many a list of boring â€śbegatsâ€ť â€“ a series of almost unpronounceable names.
