God has gone to great lengths to help us to pray properly. Doesn't that imply that many are getting it wrong? Not only the whole false religious world, but educated Christians too. Prayers that don't come from the heart can instantly be dismissed. Sadly, this dismisses so much praying. Further, prayers that approach God as a benefactor and not the Father, can be dismissed. Then there are the prayers that we think God needs because of a deficiency within himself. Prayer is not like a bell that you ring in order to get God to notice situations He would otherwise not have noticed. Prayer, rather, is a means God uses to bring us back to clear perspective. God is at the centre of the universe. Moreover, God is at the centre of time and His kingdom is coming. If His kingdom is not driving my heart, I won't know what to pray. That could also be phrased as a question; If you are not driven in prayer by the glorious coming kingdom of God, what are you even praying for? Surely we will then pray for things that are far smaller than what God desires you to pray for--health, work, cars, houses, etc. The glory of the kingdom is so huge that it must consume my prayers and God's objective are immeasurably greater than mine. Christians who pray well are praying for God's kingdom to come; God's King, God's people, God's earth. This absolute certainty is true biblical hope. A perfect, safe, happy, meaningful world. Those who conquer will reign with Christ! Death is destroyed forever! Christians must want this more than anything to know how to pray in the way God requires us to pray.
