What would you do if you found men with sledgehammers beating on the foundation of your home? How long would it be before your house would fall? What about a nation? Psalm 11:3 asks: "If the foundations are destroyed what can the righteous do?" We are rapidly removing what The Declaration of Independence calls "the laws of nature and of nature's God" as the foundation for our statutes. What do we intend to put in their place? This message examines the following principles of civil government from Scripture: 1. The civil magistrate is God's Servant. 2. He is obligated to make just decisions, based upon God's natural and special revelation. 3. God did not exempt pagan nations from the claims of His righteousness. 4. Israel's justice was intended to be a model for other nations. 5. The civil authority is to carry out God's vengeance against transgressors God's law. 6. His wrath is to display God's wrath upon evil-doers. 7. Authority can be properly or improperly exercised by the leader. 8. Civil leaders who do not administer justice according to God's law threaten their entire nation with the judgment of God.
