FDR famously said, "Only thing we have to fear is fear itself." He said this in 1932 for good reason. Our country was coming out of the Great Depression. 75 years ago today, the US was attacked without warning by the Japanese at Pearl Harbor. This ushered our country into WWII. FDR called this day a day of infamy.
Fear agitates people. It is a part of who we are because of our sin. The fear within us provokes the fight we have with temptation around us. Fightings without and fears within. Once we come to Christ we have nothing to fear and yet we sill fear. We are not free of fear in this life as Christians, but we have comfort that the world doesn't. Our school verse speaks of this comfort as a heritage extended to not only Israel, but to all those who serve the God of Israel.
There are three comforts which come to us as a heritage or an inheritance from the Lord: • Protection • Peace • Pardon
