Christ was sent into world to bring blessing to this world, and before blessing to this world was possible, the curse needed to be removed. Those who do not keep everything the law commands are under a curse. Since no one has kept the law perfectly, all who would live by the law are under God's curse. The cross was necessary because God's holiness and justice demands that sin be punished. Christ kept the law perfectly, but became a curse for us, that we might become reconciled with God. Because of Christ's atonement, God brings blessing to His people. The symbol in the new covenant of God's blessing is the Spirit.
