Thesis: There are many dual contrasts in the Bible. Psalm 90 discusses a couple of them : justice vs sinfulness, mercy vs misery and time vs eternity.
I. GOD'S ETERNITY (v. 1-2) * God is dwelling place - He fills all time and place in eternity - forever and ever * God doen't start or discover, increase or decrease. He is infinite at every moment
II. HUMAN TEMPORALITY (v. 3-6) * contrasted with God, humans have beginning * God lives in eternity, we live briefly in time
III. THE JUSTICE OF GOD (v. 7-9) * As eternal God interacts with temporal man, we see contrast of His justice and our sinfulness * Because God is infinitely just, our sin provokes His wrath * God does have wonderful plan for your life - but it is remedy to His wrath (eternal), not temporal
IV. REPITITION OF EARTHLY TEMPORALITY (v. 10) * Life short because of our sin and God's wrath * Even 130 year old Jacob said life was short
V. PRAYER FOR WISDOM (v. 11-12) * Moses shows us to fix our hope on eternity since sin filled life is so temporary. * Wise to set eyes/minds on eternal Christ * Wisdom ties to fear of God (Proverbs 1:8)
VI. PRAYER FOR MERCY (v. 13-14) * temporal consequences need eternal mercy * satisfaction found in eternal face of Jesus
VII. PRAYER FOR PROSPERITY (v. 15-16) * True happiness found in eternal prosperities (Romans 8:18) * True legacy is showing Christ to offspring * All things summing up to eternally perfect Christ - even us, is true prosperity
