Sometimes when God does not do what we want, we wonder if we should look somewhere else, but Jesus is the only one who saves. At the time of this passage, Jesus the Messiah was there walking among these men. John the Baptist knew that the Messiah was there, but he wondered why he (John) was in jail. God has all power and there is no limit to that power. The kingdom that God set up through Jesus is not what the people in this passage expected; it was something new. We cannot earn God’s love and forgiveness. God offers life to those who put their trust in Jesus Christ. God offers those who say yes to Jesus a family. He saves those from destruction who do not refuse Jesus and Savior and King.
