It is, of course, very easy for us to criticise the disciples of Jesus. They deserve to be criticised. Mark has focused on their failings as he does here. However we must be careful that we do not set ourselves up as superior to them. Not that we should not grow to a greater maturity than they had at this time. But that we should see that we are only what we are by the grace of God. Indeed, if we look fairly, we will see that their commitment was actually quite strong.
