II. We are saved by grace. What does that mean? It means grace alone, not grace plus some admixture of works, no matter how small. If works are mixed with grace, then grace is no longer grace. Grace is sovereign, electing, distinguishing grace. It is not an offer of help for those who can help themselves. No one can help themselves. It is God resurrecting the dead, not helping the sick. It is invincible and effectual. God doesn't TRY to save sinners; He saves sinners. He doesn't TRY to save everyone. He saves His elect.
III. So that no one may boast God hates boasting and He is not interested in setting up the plan and machinery of salvation to make room for human boasting. However salvation occurs, it does not occur in any way that allows humans to brag on what they did to make salvation happen.
All semi-Pelagian systems of thought (Arminian, Catholic, etc) leave room for man to boast and are therefore false and abominable. Whatever one may wish to say on behalf of and in defense of certain specific Arminians, nonetheless, Arminianism as a system is from the devil and is abominable. If a particular Arminian you know and love is truly saved, and you are correct in that assessment, fine. That does not change the fact that the system that person espouses and defends is wicked and should be denounced in the strongest terms.
