We often hear, “God bless America!” We want all the benefits God has to offer, but do we worship His as we should. This has been a big week in the United States of America. This morning I want us to look to higher hopes than the oval office. When Jesus was walking on the earth, the majority were looking for a political solution to free Israel from Roman oppression. Jesus said, “Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar’s and render unto God the things that are God.” We are charged by the Lord that whether we eat or drink, or whatsoever you do, we are to do all for the glory of God (1 Corinthians 10:31). Now that the elections are over at the national and local governments, we have specific names of individuals we are called to lift up in prayer. Paul states this in 1 Timothy 2:1-2, “I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; 2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. We need to pray for our authorities that we may be able to lead a quiet and peaceable life in order to spread the greatest message in the world, “Jesus saves.”
Whether you are happy or sad by the outcome this week, I would like us to be united as a church in this theme, “Bless the LORD, O my soul.” Our greatest need today and every day is to get to the heart of the matter and Bless the LORD. With the Psalmist David as our director of worship let us give our hearts to the Lord with renewed passion as we consider 1) His Unbeatable Benefits 2) His Unblemished Character 3) His Universal Dominion. |
