Before the coming of the Holy Spirit, Luke records the replacement of Judas as an apostle. The apostle Peter takes on the leadership of the group of apostles. Luke records Peter’s recounting of the fact of Judas having been the human instrument used to betray Christ and a few more details of how Judas committed suicide after the betrayal.
Peter outlines the requirements necessary for the replacement to qualify to fill the role of the twelfth apostle. Two men are brought forward who meet the qualifications and the final selection is prayerfully sought from the Lord. His sovereign choice is indicated to them through the casting of lots.
These twelve men will be the doctrinal center of the early church that begins on the day of Pentecost.
