In these final verses of Romans 5, the inspired apostle summarizes the profound doctrine he has been declaring throughout the chapter and before. Namely, he points to the universality of sin and the corruption of sin through our father Adam, as well as the grace and superiority of Christ who has overturned and negated the effects of the Fall of Adam for all His chosen people. Reigning sin is met and defeated by the sin-bearing and sinless reigning Savior; universal destruction and death are met by the one living and reigning Savior; those alienated from their Creator are brought near be the one who assumed the nature of those cast out; where cruel sin prevailed, sweet grace much more prevails. To consider all of this together is like trying to see the whole of the expanse of the starry nighttime skies in a single glance. It overwhelms our capacity to comprehend. Nevertheless, you and I are to peer into these glorious and revealed truths to catch a glimpse of this wondrous display. He, by whom all things were made, is revealed to also be the one through whom all things are re-made – even those dead in trespasses and sins. – Pastor Schlegel
