The apostle enjoins contentment in all circumstances. We can want something without it becoming covetousness. He encourages contentment whether we are in need or in plenty. Curiously, in Western nations, we find ourselves among the wealthiest people in the world, even the poorest in our society. Although it seems easier to be content when we have plenty, the opposite may be true. In plenty, it is easier to neglect God. We must lean on God in all circumstances, not only those in which we think we need him. The aim: to become one of those "rare jewels" of godly contentment.
