When God blesses people, He makes His face to shine upon them! He turns His face toward them! He is gracious to them, and gives them peace!
Surely our Lord Jesus blesses everyone who comes to Him by faith. He is gracious to us, He gives us peace with God, and the warmth and brightness of His face is directed towards us.
But the opposite of blessing is cursing. Moses explained this to Israel when the law was given to them.
If Israel kept God's commandments, He would bless them. If Israel disobeyed God's commandments, He would curse them.
An extensive and elaborate list of the curses by God for disobedience is recorded in Deuteronomy.
They are, in short, the wrath of God reigned down against rebellious and disobedient sinners. There is judgment and punishment in that cursing.
But of course, Israel refused to obey, and therefore God's curse came upon the nation. Jeremiah prophesied that very shortly, wrath would fall, and explained exactly why: the curses promised would come to pass, because Israel had sinned. God brought evil against them.
When Judah had been carried off into foreign captivity under God's curse, Daniel described the fulfillment of the promised wrath: the curse is poured upon us!
So it goes for all of mankind. We are all under a curse subject to wrath and judgment for rebellion and sin against our Creator.
It started in the Garden of Eden - God promised that the consequence for sin is death!
The wrath of God is revealed from Heaven against all unrighteousness!
The wages of sin is death! God always pays those wages, and there is no escape by our own works.
Jesus preached everlasting hell fire for all who disobey.
