The Galatians were turning to a false gospel; they were deserting the true gospel, deserting grace, and deserting the true and living God. They were distorting the gospel by adding works to it. Salvation is by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone. Salvation precedes good works. Deserting the gospel because of distortion will lead to damnation. Paul made a decision to stand firm in the gospel and not be a man-pleaser.
