The clear message of this psalm is that God's chosen people have solid reasons to praise him. The first reason is because Yahweh is good. Other religions do not see their gods as good, but as capricious and to be feared. But Yahweh's goodness can be seen in his creation, providence, and supremely in sending his Son to rescue lost and hell-bound sinners. The second reason Yahweh is to be praised is because he indeed chose out of the multitude of sinners a people to be his own. His sovereign, electing grace is the only reason anyone has every come into saving relationship with him. The third reason Yahweh is to be praised by his people is because of his mighty acts of salvation throughout the history of Israel, culminating in the sending of his Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, to live, die, and rise for those upon whom he set his love from before the foundation of the worlds. Thus Yahweh's praise should rise up from his people with exhuberance and strength.
