In this section, the Lord directly addressed the priests (see 1:6; 2:1)—these ones to whom God refers as messengers of the Lord of hosts (as we will see in 2:9). When the people brought blemished sacrifices, the priests should have corrected them. Instead they became complicit. God had told them in Leviticus 22:17-25 that sacrifices were to be unblemished, because based on the full revelation of God's word, we know the sacrifices were meant to point to Jesus Christ, the truly unblemished one, the perfect lamb of God. We must worship God according to what he has said about how he should be worshipped. He asks us for our best, and so we should give him our best.
