From the Scriptures—the very source from where the Lord reveals truth and the Church for whom Christ saved—sounds forth the gospel into the world, the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes (Rom. 1:16). In this gospel one hears the sound of grace, a distinguishing mark that sets it apart from all others that promise salvation. This is the good news of how sinners are saved from their sins and reconciled to God. It announces a definitive cure for the most terminal disease that not only wreaks havoc during one’s lifetime, but beyond into eternity. This is salvation from a God who reveals Himself as, “compassionate and gracious” (Ex. 34:6), then upon coming into the world to save, is described as, “full of grace and truth” (Jn. 1:14). At its heart is grace, that those most unworthy might receive the favor of God.Grace permeates the Christian life, from our need for salvation, to the unmerited favor of God, to justification, sanctification, and glorification. Simply put, this life is all of grace.
