THE GOSPEL OF MATTHEW
Matthew traces Jesus's ancestors back to the biblical patriarch Abraham, the founding father of the Israelite people.
Writing for a Jewish Christian audience, Matthew's main concern is to present Jesus as a teacher even greater than Moses. Matthew authored the first Gospel of the Bible's New Testament, now known as the Gospel of Matthew. Prior to preaching the word of God, he worked as a tax collector in Capernaum.Matthew tells us Jesus is the son of God. Jesus is the king. Jesus is the promised savior.Matthew opens with a simple statement of who Jesus is (the Messiah), and closes with a simple statement of what we should do (make disciples for Him).
