“TEN-STRINGED HARP” (Ps 33)
WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 30, 2019

“Rejoice in the LORD, you righteous ones; praise from the upright is beautiful.

Praise the LORD with the lyre; make music to Him with a ten-stringed harp.

Sing a new song to Him; play skillfully on the strings, with a joyful shout.” vs1-3

It is right to use instruments in worship, though it is not commanded in the new covenant. The old testament pattern shows that it was useful. This ten stringed instrument is also the various gifts of God’s people, because we are all different, and we’re to serve with the gifts that we have [1 Cor 12].

Don’t try to be anyone else. God has gifted YOU, and only YOU can serve Him as YOU. Use your gifts for His glory, just like music must serve God, instead of the creature. He says, “A manifestation of the Spirit is given to each person to produce the common good [1 Cor 12:7].” Nothing is done to magnify self in God’s house. We are servants of the Most High, come to praise Him, so let our worship be reverent and orderly.

Women are forbidden to preach to men, and only one person is to speak at a time, lest there be confusion [1 Cor 14:26-40]. The goal is to say, “Amen”, because the gospel was preached and God was made visible! It is not to see man at all, and we can’t get to God if we don’t know what’s being said.

Let our heart be focused on one thing, which is worshiping God in the way that He is pleased. He gives us joy as we do this.

Secondly, “Blessed is the nation whose God is Yahweh--the people He has chosen to be His own possession [Ps 33:12]!” This nation is not the people Israel, but the spiritual Israel, the elect from every nation. Peter says, “But you are a chosen offspring, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for His own possession, so that you may proclaim the praises of the One who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light [1 Pet 2:9].” We have obtained mercy by the free grace of God, and now we love Him, praising Him with our lives. We are not a people who chose Him, but He chose us without any cause in us, other than He loved us distinctly and forever. He set His love on us in Christ and drew us to Himself to show how great He is in saving by grace. We are the blessed people whose God is the Lord Jesus Christ.

Let us be ONE PEOPLE, united, even as we are one [John 17:21]. We may differ on politics, music, and culture. You may prefer the hot issue of racism and another is more incensed against abortion, but we serve the same God, pointing sinners to Jesus Christ. Let us not fight one another but serve each other and help others spread the kingdom. We are one people, not in competition, and we want to see the kingdom increase. When you slander or disregard your brother, then you’re stopping GOD’S WORK in and through him, and it ought not be. Let him stand or fall before his own master, which is not me and you, and people don’t have to agree with us to be godly [Rom 14].

Let us leave the pride at home and love one another for Christ’s sake. This glorifies God. Let us not seek to offend.

Finally, our hope is in God: It is not in self at all. “Our soul waits for the LORD; He is our help and our shield. For our hearts rejoice in Him, since we trust in His holy name. Let your steadfast love, O LORD, be upon us, even as we hope in you.” No man can help us overcome sin: Only the Savior can do that, so we cry out to Him in all alarm when we are tempted and fallen. We look nowhere else but Jesus Christ - not to self or any other being. We look to His love, His promises, and His power, looking unto Christ Jesus. We are not deceived by self but know that God is the Savior.

Sinner, get in contact with Him. Saint, keep your eyes on Him constantly. Have no other hope but Jesus Christ, and He will make you stand. Worship Him only.
