Peace by Christ’s Death

“Binding his foal unto the vine, and his ass’s colt unto the choice vine; he washed his garments in wine, and his clothes in the blood of grapes...” (Genesis 49:11)

This is a description of peace and tranquility in the Kingdom of Christ, Jeremiah 23:17; Zechariah 3:10. In wars, they do not bind foals or asses to vines, when men cannot dwell under their own vine and fig tree, which are destroyed. It denotes the peaceable administration of Christ in His Kingdom, Isaiah 9:5, and is not to be understood of external tranquility but partly because Christ establishes His Kingdom without warlike arms, by the preaching of the Gospel and partly because it brings peace and tranquility of conscience.

He washed his garments in wine and his clothes in grapes and so, Christ would pour His most precious blood upon His garments, namely, His flesh which His Deity puts on as clothing and would afterward be excellent Spiritual wine to comfort and refresh His own.
