“This is Bigger than All of Us”

The reference, of course, was to the Coronavirus, its spread and influence. When folks say things like “this is bigger than all of us,” they mean, I suppose, that something has occurred, perhaps some unexpected thing, some threat that people, of themselves, individually, cannot handle. Implied is that we need to cast aside differences--political, religious, ethnic, or otherwise, and unite. Divided we go down. United we have a chance. Together we can beat what is bigger than all of us.

What is forgotten is the God Who is bigger than all of us.

He always was. He always is. He always shall be.

This is just to say that God is…God.

Let us not forget. Let us stir one another up to remember our God.

And that He is great and greatly to be praised (Psalm 145: 3); that His ways and thoughts are higher than ours (Isaiah 55: 8, 9); that His purposes stand, though our plans are thwarted (Proverbs 19:21); that His love in Christ is greater, bigger, and more wonderful than all of our loves put together (Ephesians 3:14-19); that His good overcomes all evil—even the bad of a pandemic, the evil of a million men and devils, or the crucifixion of His Great Son (Genesis 50:20; Acts 2:23).

God is bigger than all of us. God is bigger than all our problems, our viruses, our shortages, our solutions, our vaccines, our wealth, our resourcefulness, and all our efforts individually and all together to do what humans devise to do.

Behold His glorious bigness in the littlest, the softest, and most ordinary things, like the birds, the bees, and the signs of the spring He has made.

Listen to the Big gospel Word of Bethlehem, the cross of the Savior, His resurrection, His return.

Listen, even now, to the Word God is speaking through His deadly, humanity-gripping and arresting providences, His Word accomplishing what He pleases, prospering in the thing for which He sends it (Isaiah 55:11).

God is bigger than all of us.

People of God unite! In reverence, in prayer, and in quiet trust.

Kingdom of God people, let the light of God shine.
