Speaking Boldly for the Lord “So they remained for a long time, speaking boldly for the Lord…” Christians are more than conquerors (Romans 8:37). They persevere. Saints endure. When believers encounter opposition, they stiffen their resolve and speak freely. We declare the truth with all authority because “God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.” (2 Timothy 1:7) This boldness is supernatural. The ease and poise with which we defend and commend the faith are gifts of the Holy Spirit. God’s Word feeds the fountain of this sacred courage. The life giving water of the Holy Spirit flows through you and the sacred writings become the marrow of your soul. You cannot help but speak of the things you have seen and heard! (Acts 4:20) How did you become a Christian? Was it not through the hearing of the Word of Christ? (Romans 10:17) Did the Holy Spirit not cause your heart to burn within you at the reading and preaching of the Word of God? (Luke 24:32) The light of heaven revealed the riches of the Word to you! Ever since that time, you have built your house on the firm foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus as the cornerstone! Christianity is the spirit of power, because God has revealed Himself to you, He has enabled you to believe, and your faith now rests on the Divine testimony. (1 Corinthians 2:5) Your boldness can be measured by your trust in the Foundation. The convictions of a blood-bought saint will only be as strong as his faith in the Word. As your faith grows, so will your confidence in speaking boldly for the Lord. One who sees clearly will feel strongly. The believer who sees dimly will feel faintly. We long to strike a blow for the Kingdom of God. The accuracy and power of our swing will depend on the strength of our convictions. Search the Scripture, meditate on the Law, and feed on the preached Word. Study truth, commit to righteousness, be steady. Abide in the One who spoke with all authority. (John 15:4, John 7:46, Matthew 7:28-29)
