Can We Trust God With His Graces?

"Or what man is there among you who, when his son asks for a loaf, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, he will not give him a snake , will he? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask Him!” ~ Matthew 7:9-11

Bible Quiz
The answers are at the end of the blog. Have fun!!
According to the Bible, are these statements true or false?

1. Angels can give us insight into the Word of God and other spiritual matters.

2. Since angels are messengers of God, we can pray to them for help, and we should pay proper homage to them.

Dear Prayer Warriors,

Beginning with Adam in the Garden, man has never trusted God with His graces. When I share the gospel, so many, many people will not trust God to give salvation as a free gift. They just don’t believe He is that good. To cover their bases, they invent laws, deeds and acts of religious righteousness to present to God upon their death. I have found, though, that another area in which we are tempted to not trust God's grace is in the area of having children - or increasing our family size. God has said we can have as many as we want, but I know few Christians in the western world who feel they can trust God with this gracious gift. Like a well-meaning relative who has overstepped his bounds financially and must be protected from his own generosity, many Christians feel they must protect God from overstepping His own generous idea of giving babies.

God says that babies are a gift from God.
"Behold, children are a gift of the LORD, The fruit of the womb is a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, So are the children of one's youth. How blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them; They will not be ashamed When they speak with their enemies in the gate." ~ Psalm 127:3-5

God has over and over again encouraged His people to have babies
"God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. God blessed them; and God said to them, " Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth." ~ Genesis 1:27-28

"And God blessed Noah and his sons and said to them, 'Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth. . .As for you, be fruitful and multiply; Populate the earth abundantly and multiply in it.'" ~ Genesis 9:1, 7

Western man, though, is so worried about affecting that which he cannot control that he refuses the blessings of God who can and is in control of all things. The created, which has no control over the world, refuses the blessings of the Creator who can and does exercise control over all things. It is an extremely convoluted and self-contradictory world view which has sadly ended in lost blessings for so many individuals.

One of the blessings of ministering in the church in Africa is that few families have been willing to accept without questioning the failed secular-humanist teachings on small families and child-raising philosophies. Unlike western families (who accept without question the two child family and the rejection of the rod in disicpling children), they have taken a hard look at the practical results of two generations of blind acceptance of these teachings in America and Europe and have rejected them both on Biblical and practical grounds.

Just like in the Garden, man refuses what God would freely give him, in the hopes of gaining that which he can never attain. Adam had access to all the food in creation but exchanged paradise for the forbidden fruit in the hopes that he would be “like God.” He exchanged that grace and blessing which was freely given him for an unattainable goal. So modern man has access to large families and all the blessings therein but exchanges that in hopes of a god-like control of the world which he can never attain. The small families of modern Christians have not changed one thing in terms of the world’s economy, population, ability to feed itself, regulate climate or any other event. The only thing they have accomplished is to the reduce the number of Christian children and deprive Christian parents of one of the great blessings and gifts of God.

It is a mystifying thing to see modern protestants seeking to be more consciences than God the Father, to be more spiritual and have standards of morality higher than God the Holy Spirit. Psalms 127:3-5 is clear in its teaching that "Behold, children are a gift of the LORD, the fruit of the womb is a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, so are the children of one's youth. How blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them; they will not be ashamed when they speak with their enemies in the gate."

Children are a gift from God the Father – we do not have to be more conscience in our world view than God the Father. God the Holy Spirit says, “How blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them.” We do not have to be more spiritual in our values than God the Holy Spirit.

Whenever I read Psalm 127:3-5, I always grieve for those young couples who are duped by the failed secular and decadent world view of the "two child family." These proponents would also embrace presenting homosexuality as an option to your children, allowing them to experiment with drugs and sex and a host of other failed philosophies of the family. They are not content with having ruined their own families and prospects but must ruin the next generation as well. A good cross-reference for those who judge young couples who chose to reject the world’s values and instead embrace the blessing of God is Romans 1:32 which describes those who reject God's Word by stating "and although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also give hearty approval to those who practice them." Praise God for those Protestant and Catholic churches who still are proponents of large Christian families.

By His mercy,
II Corinthians 4:1

Answers to this week’s Bible quiz
1. False – The fact is that angels long to be able to understand the spiritual truths of the gospel. Such truths are clear to us but remain hidden from them. It is therefore foolish to resort to an angel for spiritual understanding. They have none to give. True, they are God’s messengers, but they do not understand the message. (See 1 Peter 1:12)

2. False – It is sin to pray to an angel or to pay homage to an angel. All angels both fear and loathe the homage of man. It is only satan, the fallen and evil demon/angel, who seeks to be worshiped.
a. There is but one Mediator. Prayer to God through any other mediator is sin. (See 1 Timothy 2:5)
b. Do not worship or show homage to angels or their images. (See Isaiah 42:8)
c. Angels fear and loathe the worship of man. (See Revelation 19:10; 22:8-9)
d. It is only satan who seeks to be worshiped. (See Matthew 4:8-9)
