Eyes of Fire - Jim Scudder, Jr.

Today's Scripture: While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal. II Corinthians 4:18

All over social media, you see intricately positioned, perfectly angled, touched-up selfies. This reality is depicted with seemingly perfect relationships, clothing, travel destinations, meals - you name it. It’s all about the visual display. I am not against social media, but I am against basing one’s life on hiding behind a facade. It is unwise to focus on what we can see with only the human eye.

On the other hand, we also tend to use social media to portray that we have it all together spiritually. We often post inspirational quotes and show pictures of our devotional life. Don’t get me wrong, using social media as a platform to promote the Gospel and the truth of Scripture is the best possible use for it. But, let me just be honest with you. God sees everything - not just the posts with your Bible open next to the perfect latte. He sees you and your real relationship with Him.

Sometimes we get so caught up in having others see what we are doing that we forget who we really are aiming to please: the One Whose gaze reveals all. In Revelation, John, the author, was able to see what is veiled to us and observed the spiritual reality of Christ. In Revelation 1:14, he states that the eyes of Christ were like a flaming fire. I believe He could feel the power in those eyes that are able to see into our souls and knew that their fire eliminates any pretense.

Be honest with God. He already knows your heart. Be real in your walk with Him. He already sees past any facade you may have created. God wants a relationship with you, not just a post or a hashtag.
