“How shall I curse, whom God hath not cursed? Or how shall I defy, whom the LORD hath not defied? ” Numbers 23:8
These are the words of Balaam who had been hired by Moab’s king Balak to curse the people of Israel. Though the New Testament reveals to us that Balaam was not a God-fearing man, God would not let him curse His beloved people. Balak offered money and kept pleading with Balaam to indulge him in this cursing, but to no avail.This story shows the deep love and grace of God towards His people. Reading the whole book of Numbers shows the people God was protecting did not have a spotless track record. Their shameful flaws are evident. But God had chosen to show them grace.
Scripture declares that for all those in Christ there is no condemnation. Jesus Himself bore the curse on the Cross that His people deserved. For these people, God’s rich grace has taken away their curse and replaced it with blessing. If this is your hope, how does your heart respond today to this God of grace? May faith, peace, and loving obedience flow richly from within towards this blessed Savior!
