Interesting sermon topics to reach peopleâŚâContradictions in the Scripturesâ. âThe Problem of Predestinationâ. âGod Directed Genocide in the Old Testamentâ. âDisagreement Between Genesis and Scienceâ. âThe Historical Reliability of the Biblical Textâ. âHow Moses Recovers After Committing Murderâ. âHow David Recovers After Committing Adulteryâ.
These sermons probably will have for their spring boards a text from the scriptures. But the text is not to be used as a mere spring board for a catchy title of a sermon. It is to be expounded within the context of the passage. Pastors responsible for such ads use the Holy Bible, the Word of God, only for the purpose of fitting catchy sermon titles with a text. They never search the scriptures diligently, striving to be honest before God, and honest with souls of men. Such pastors are too busy running their religious entertainment centers. The God of the Holy Scriptures is not the god described in religious advertisements. I assure you that the God of Scripture is INFINITELY CAPABLE and does not, in any way, need your advertisements in making Himself known to His people, âFor those whom He foreknew, He also predestined âŚand those whom He predestined, He also calledâŚâ He does not in any way need advertisement that is not true for His calling. The God of the Bible is the Self-Existing, âI AMâ, depending only upon His own being and power to accomplish all His purpose and pleasure. He would have us to know that He has absolute need of nothing that puny man may offer. He says to us, out of His word, âIf I were hungry, I would not tell you; for all the world is Mine, and all its fullness.â Such blasphemy that is referred to above grieves my soul; yet I suppose we who truly know God and love the Christ of Scripture will be confronted with it. Even the best things (such as Holy Scripture) will provide the heathen occasion to blaspheme God. The greatest business of the Church in this world is to bear a good confession of Christ, to defend His glory, and demand that men honor Him. This I believe to be the witness of the Church. Only as we faithfully and boldly attack everything that exalts itself against the glory of Christ shall we successfully see men come to Christ. We live in a day of terrible religious apostasy and the masses worship they know not what. In their feeble attempts to worship the God they do not know they publicly blaspheme His Holy Name. We stand as guilty as they if we refuse to rebuke such ignorance. Therefore let us be bold in our opposition to that that dishonors our glorious Lord Jesus Christ.
