But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother’s womb, and called me by his grace, to reveal his Son in me, that I might preach him among the heathen; immediately I conferred not with flesh and blood. Gal. 1:15-16
We rejoice with Caleb Harding who will confess the Lord Jesus Christ in believer’s baptism this morning.
“For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God” (1 Corinthians 1: 18).
The preaching of salvation by the grace of God alone by the crucified Christ, the preaching of righteousness, peace and reconciliation by the blood of his cross, the preaching of a sufficient sacrifice and atonement by Christ offering up himself on the cross in our room and stead is sheer nonsense to those who are perishing, whether they are in the church or the world. But unto us who are being saved by the power and grace of God, this gospel is both the power of salvation and a revelation of the wisdom of God. We see in Christ crucified our deliverance from the curse of the law, and we see in Christ crucified how God can be both just and Justifier of those who believe (Rom. 8:1, 33, 34; 3:19-26).Pastor Henry T. EFFECTUAL CALLING
“Awake, awake; put on thy strength, O Zion; put on thy beautiful garments, O Jerusalem, the holy city” (Isaiah 52: 1).
It is God alone who effectually calls his child to spiritual life in regeneration, commanding, “Awake, awake.” But if we are dead in sins why would God call on us to awake? How can a dead man awake? In the valley of dry bones, God said, “I will cause breath to enter into you, and ye shall live.” (Eze. 37: 3-6) The man with the withered hand could not stretch forth his hand until Christ gave the effectual command, “And he stretched it out: and his hand was restored whole as the other.” (Mk. 3: 5)
Christ is our Strength to do what God calls us to do. Notice he commands, “put on thy strength, O Zion.” Sinners have no strength in themselves. (Rom. 5:6) The strength of Christ’s people is Christ. (Phil. 4:13) We have life inwardly only when Christ the Life has entered within us by the Holy Spirit. Only when Christ the Word has spoken in power in our inward man do we hear the word of God’s call. An embryo has life when the seed gives life. Likewise, when the Incorruptible Seed enters, there is Life and the Lord’s call is always effectual. (1 Pet. 1: 23-25) Many deny the truth of the necessity of the Lord’s effectual call. But they will not deny it if they experience it because the Lord promises, “Therefore my people shall know my name: therefore they shall know in that day that I am he that doth speak: behold, it is I.” (Isa. 52: 6). WILL YE ALSO GO AWAY?
This was the question posed by the Lord to His disciples. He preached a message that had this end, “From that time many of His disciples went back, and walked no more with Him” (John 6:66). As the Lord watched them leave, He said, “Will ye also go away?” The idea is departing without noise or notice. If you desire to leave, here is your opportunity. I love Peter’s reply, “Lord, to whom shall we go? Thou hast the words of eternal life.” These words that made the crowd leave Him were the very words Peter had to have. If you can leave, you will. The Lord will have no unwilling disciples. If you wish to leave, you should. But to the believer, leaving is unthinkable. There is nowhere else to go. The words the crowd viewed as “hard sayings” are nothing less than “Words of Spirit and Life” (John 6:63).

NO OTHER SALVATION
“Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved” (Acts 4:12).
This was Peter’s answer to those religious Jews who questioned him about the gospel message he preached in the temple. He met these Pharisees at their point of rebellion. He plainly and boldly declared that there is salvation for sinners but only in the Lord Jesus Christ.
Consider what the scriptures teach us about salvation in, by and through the Lord Jesus Christ.
There is no other SAVIOUR but Jesus Christ to look to for salvation (Isa. 45:21-22; Matt.11:25-28; John 14:6).
There is no other SACRIFICE but Jesus Christ to cleanse and redeem us from all sin (Heb. 9:26; 1 Peter1:18-20; 1 John1:7).
There is no other SUBSTITUTE but Jesus Christ to redeem and justify us from the curse of the Law (Gal. 3:13; 2 Cor.5:21).
There is no other SERVANT but Jesus Christ to honor and establish righteousness for us (Isa. 42: 1-4; 21; Matt. 5:17; Phil. 3:7-9; Rom. 4:6).
There is no other SURETY but Jesus Christ to guarantee all the terms of the everlasting covenant of grace (Heb. 7:22; Heb. 9:12; Heb. 13:20).
There is no other SHEPHERD but Jesus Christ that can effectually justify and bring the lost sheep home (Psalm 23; John 6: 37-39; 10:11; Matt. 1:21 1 Peter 3:18).
There is no other SURE FOUNDATION but Jesus Christ where weary sinners can find safety, salvation and secure refuge (Psalm 46:1; Isa. 28:16; 1 Cor. 3:11; 1 Peter 2:6).
There is no other SCEPTRE but Jesus Christ to rule and reign for the good of the elect and the glory of God (Rom. 8:28; Acts 2:36; Phil. 2:7-9).
There is no other SEED OF WOMAN but Jesus Christ to bruise the serpent’s head and crush the dominion of evil (Gen. 3:15; Col. 2:15; Heb. 2:14-17).
The message of scripture is clear; the Lord Jesus Christ is all in Salvation!
