But when the fullness of time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law. – Galatians 4:5
I just have to stop here for a moment and marvel and glory at the sovereignty of God! Jesus came in the “fullness of time.” You see, things don’t just happen on planet earth; God is orchestrating everything.
There was a set time when God created Adam and Eve. There was a set time after Adam and Eve sinned that God clothed them with skins picturing the atonement that would come through Jesus Christ. There was a set time when God judged the earth through the flood, and there was a set time when God brought Noah and his family safely through that flood. There was a set time when God confused the tongues of men at the Tower of Babel so they could not unite in their rebellion against Him. There was a set time when God chose in unmerited favor a man called Abraham to be the father of a great nation. There was a set time when a covenant was passed to his son, Isaac, and to his son, Jacob. There was a set time when God put on human clothes and wrestled with Jacob all night until Jacob surrendered to God and God changed his name to Israel. There was a set time when Joseph became prime minister of the great nation of Egypt. There was a set time when God led Israel out of Egypt through Moses, and there was a set time when Joshua led the children of Israel across the River Jordan. There was a set time when God led his people through judges and a set time when God led His people through kings.
There was a set time when the angel spoke to a lowly virgin by the name of Mary and said you’re going to conceive by the Holy Spirit of God. There was a set time when Joseph and Mary were forced to go to Bethlehem because of the census, and a set time when Jesus was born of the virgin and laid in a feeding trough. There was a set time when He grew to adulthood and began His earthly ministry. During that earthly ministry, there was a set time when He set His face like flint toward Jerusalem. There was a set time when He yielded Himself and they drove nails through His hands and feet and suspended Him between heaven and earth. There was a set time when they plunged a spear in His side and a set time when He cried, “It is finished!” There was a set time when Joseph of Arimathea was commissioned by God to put Him in his tomb, and there was a set time on the third day when He rose again.
There was a set time after He greeted His apostles and disciples and gave them their marching orders that He ascended into heaven. There was a set time when He sat down at the right hand of the Father. And finally, there IS a set time when He will come again for His bride!
