A Thought From the Word

The thoughts of the diligent tend only to plenteousness; but of every one that is hasty only to want.” Proverbs 21:5

Jesus was diligent. He worked hard in His mission in this world. In fact, without His diligence in living a life of perfect obedience and His suffering work of redemption, there would be no hope of forgiveness for anyone. He worked hard in teaching, healing the sick, and ministering to poor sinners. Where would we be without the diligent work of Jesus Christ?

Rejoicing in His diligence should lead us to the same in our lives. Work hard at school. Work hard at work. This glorifies and honors God. Be diligent in raising children according to God’s word, if that is your stage of life. Put forth genuine time and effort to pray, read the Scriptures, serve your church, and in whatever way that God calls you.

Laziness won’t glorify God, build up His kingdom or fulfill your soul. But, the opposite is happily true when done with faith and joy in the Lord. Our efforts will always fall short, but our aim should always be high. God will honor your life of diligent service and use it in ways that you may or may not be able to see.
