(Tune: He Leadeth Me)

Hark! How the Gospel trumpet sounds!

Christ and free grace therein abounds;

Free grace to such as sinners be,

And if free grace why not for me?

The Saviour died and by His blood

Brought rebel sinners near to God;

He died to set the captives free,

And why, my soul, why not for thee?

Thus Jesus came the poor to bless,

To clothe them with His righteousness;

That robe is spotless, full and free,

And why, my soul, why not for thee?

Eternal life by Christ is giv'n,

And sinful men are raised to heav'n;

Then sing of grace so rich and free,

And say, my soul, why not for thee?

Today’s Speaker: Brother Mark Pannell will conduct the 11:00 am service today. Pray for him as he delivers God’s word.

As we embark upon another time of worship, consider these words which a pastor of many years ago spoke to his congregation. May we sincerely make the same request. "O Lord God, help us now really to worship Thee. We thank Thee for this occasion. Lord, wilt Thou help us to forget our cares, to shut out the world, to get rid of all down-dragging tendencies and the attraction of grosser things that we may see Christ and worship Him as earnestly as we should."

"Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me under the shadow of Thy wings" (Psalm 17:8).

Is this not the prayer of all God’s children? Knowing something of our sinfulness, weaknesses, fickleness, unbelief and tendency to roam, we constantly pray, Lord keep me. "Keep" means watch over, preserve, guard and protect. Keep me at all times. Keep me when You lead me into the valley of trial lest I be filled with hopelessness. Keep me when I ascend to successes in life lest I be filled with pride. Keep me in the time of sickness lest I be overcome with despair. Keep me in the time of health lest I be presumptuous. Keep me in the days of youth lest I waste my life in frivolity. Keep me in the days of old age when I grow weak and feeble. Keep me when I am sick. Keep me when I am well. Keep me when I rejoice. Keep me when I am sad. Keep me when I am awake. Keep me when I am asleep. Keep me when I remember Thee. Keep me when I forget Thee. Keep me when my faith is strong. Keep me when my faith is weak. Keep me when I seem to have no faith at all. Keep me no matter where I go. Keep me throughout my pilgrim journey. Keep me "looking unto Jesus, the Author and Finisher of my faith." Keep me while You give me breath, and keep me when You take it away. O Lord, keep me forevermore.

Now, hear the words of the Lord to Jacob and know that, if you are a child of God, they are for you as well. "And, behold, I am with thee, and will keep thee in all places whither thou goest" (Genesis 28:15).

--- Pastor Jim Byrd

Gospel Ordinances & Justification

We are not saved by works in which we yield obedience to any Gospel ordinances, though they be ordinances appointed by the Lord Jesus Christ himself to be practiced by the Saints. I take in this, because I have found in my own spirit, and in many that I have dealt with, a secret and subtle kind of Popery in which we are apt to attribute something to the practice of ordinances in reference to our justification. And hence it is that people are so ready to run into every new way of worship, which is brought to light, thinking that unless they find out the right discipline, and government of Jesus Christ, the right baptism and ordinances, that they are not true Saints, nor sufficiently justified. As we are not justified by more inward and spiritual works; so neither are we justified by an outward observation of ordinances, or submitting to any command of the Lord Jesus Christ, but only by our obedience to the first and principal command of the Gospel, by which we believe justification by grace through Christ without works.

--- John Simpson {Perfection of Justification, 1648}

Covenant of Grace

By the Covenant, I mean that engagement which God hath laid upon himself, to bestow on them for whom Christ hath died, all good which is commensurate to their nature, and by virtue whereof all blessings Corporal, Spiritual, and Eternal, do flow down unto them. I call it an Engagement, because God by promising makes himself a debtor, though not to us, yet unto himself; being bound in justice to perform his Word and Promise. - All the mercies we receive, they are the fruits and effects of this engagement, Zech.9:11. It is the only plea we can use to God, both for the things of this life, and that which is to come; and by virtue hereof, we may claim and confidently expect from him all things whatsoever which we stand in need of, and are good for us. Now I say, that Promise or Covenant by virtue whereof, we obtain both Grace and Glory, good things, present and future, is not conditional to us; I say, to us; for to Christ it was conditional, though to us it be free; to him it was a Covenant of Works, though to us it be a Covenant of pure Grace; there is not so much as one blessing doth descend to us, but he hath dearly bought it, even with the price of his own blood; for which cause he is called the Mediator, Witness, and Surety of the Covenant.

--- William Eyre {Justification without Conditions – 1654}
