How to Get People to Address the Real Issue Surrounding Abortion
THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 21, 2013

The rhetoric surrounding the abortion issue can and must be simplified. Abortion is not about women's lives. It is not about women's rights. It is not about wonderful abortion providers who give a much needed service to these poor women. It is not about women and their pastors making a decision that is between the woman and God. Abortion is about one question and one question only: "What is the unborn?" Since 97% of abortions done in this country are done on perfectly healthy mothers and perfectly healthy babies, the focus of pro-aborts on "what if abortion is needed to save the mother's life?" is a smokescreen.

If you can remember this one question, you will make headway and be persuasive in every conversation you ever have with any person on this issue. Here's the question, 4 words: "What is the unborn?"

I'd like to illustrate the real issue. If one of my sons walks up behind me and says, "Hey dad, can I kill this?" What will be my next question if I cannot see him? Right... "What is it, son?" Now, if I turn around and he's holding a mosquito, my answer is an emphatic: "Yes, you may kill that." If I turn around and he's got his little brother in a headlock, my answer will be an emphatic: "No, you may not kill that."

I once had lunch with an abortion clinic security guard and he launched into the whole "women's rights...." "women's lives matter..." etc. And I said: "I agree, women's lives matter and women should never be denied their rights. The problem is, that has absolutely nothing to do with abortion. My question to you is: What is the unborn? If the unborn are NOT human beings, then no justification for abortion is necessary. If the unborn ARE human beings, then no justification for abortion is possible."

That was like dropping a nuclear bomb on the table. He had absolutely no response. After a very long silence, I said, "Look, Joe (not his real name), if the unborn are not human beings, then abortion is no different from clipping your fingernails. Now, I don't march around campaigning for people to be 'pro-finger-nail' do I? Why, because fingernails are not human beings. But if the unborn are human beings, then what does that make abortion?"

The fact is, we know more about the pre-born child than any other generation in history. We can look at them in 3-d with ultrasound and we know that it is a human life from the moment of conception forward. Even the pro-aborts do not even attempt to depersonalize the unborn child any longer. They know it is futile to do so.

So, when you discuss this issue with people, remember this question: "What is the unborn?" THAT is what the issue is about. Don't let people distract you from this. Ask this question: "What is the unborn" - and ask it over, and over, and over again... and always steer people back to it. If we are able to focus people on this question, abortion's true horror ought to come into clear focus. I do fear however, that even when that happens, the hearts of American's are so far gone, so irreversibly hardened to the pitiless slaughter of these precious unborn human persons that nothing short of great judgment from the Almighty will finally put a stop to it. Remember all that God did to Israel to turn them from their sins, and none of it worked (and I fear America is far more hard-hearted than Israel ever was at this point):

Amos 4:6-13

"Also I gave you cleanness of teeth in all your cities.
And lack of bread in all your places;
Yet you have not returned to Me,"
Says the Lord.
[7] "I also withheld rain from you,
When there were still three months to the harvest.
I made it rain on one city,
I withheld rain from another city.
One part was rained upon,
And where it did not rain the part withered.
[8] So two or three cities wandered to another city to drink water,
But they were not satisfied;
Yet you have not returned to Me,"
Says the Lord.
[9] "I blasted you with blight and mildew.
When your gardens increased,
Your vineyards,
Your fig trees,
And your olive trees,
The locust devoured them;
Yet you have not returned to Me,"
Says the Lord.
[10] "I sent among you a plague after the manner of Egypt;
Your young men I killed with a sword,
Along with your captive horses;
I made the stench of your camps come up into your nostrils;
Yet you have not returned to Me,"
Says the Lord.
[11] "I overthrew some of you,
As God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah,
And you were like a firebrand plucked from the burning;
Yet you have not returned to Me,"
Says the Lord.
[12] "Therefore thus will I do to you, O Israel;
Because I will do this to you,
Prepare to meet your God, O Israel!"
[13] For behold,
He who forms mountains,
And creates the wind,
Who declares to man what his thought is,
And makes the morning darkness,
Who treads the high places of the earth--
The Lord God of hosts is His name.

In light of such a ruthless article as this one by Mary Elizabeth Williams which came out January 23, 2013: SO WHAT IF ABORTION ENDS LIFE, I fear that nothing short of the loss of our material comforts, wealth, prosperity, and many lives will be what it takes to turn this nation's heart back to seeking the cross of Jesus for forgiveness for our own holocaust of innocence. If coming face to face with the murder of the most helpless, defenseless people in society - those most in need of mercy, love, and tender compassion - if that does not break our hearts any longer, then we all simply have hearts of stone. I cannot begin to imagine the kind of fear I would live in if Mary Elizabeth Williams was my mother. Her chilling final thoughts in this article justify this. Listen to her:

"In an Op-Ed on 'Why I’m Pro-Choice' in the Michigan Daily this week, Emma Maniere stated, quite perfectly, that 'Some argue that abortion takes lives, but I know that abortion saves lives, too.' She understands that it saves lives not just in the most medically literal way, but in the roads that women who have choice then get to go down, in the possibilities for them and for their families. And I would put the life of a mother over the life of a fetus every single time — even if I still need to acknowledge my conviction that the fetus is indeed a life. A life worth sacrificing."

If she ever has children who at age 6 months, 3 years, or 9 years for that matter who would threaten her "life" by getting in the way of "the possibilities" for her and her family, I would encourage them to run, to eye with suspicion every morsel of food and every drink put before them, and to sleep with one eye open. In Mary Elizabeth Williams' mind, the murder of that child would be, in her own words, an act of "saving her own life." Such twisted, perverted, ruthless, and uniformly selfish thinking is becoming more and more the norm of our day. And if Mary Williams were to read this blog entry and respond, I would put my next 6 paychecks on the table to wager that the nastiness and vitriol of her response would very nicely prove my point. Most people I know would at least affirm in principle the Golden Rule: "Love your neighbor as yourself." Not only are we being told to kill our neighbor if they are in the way of "the possibilities of our lives and families," we are being told it is ok to kill our own children for the same reason.

The Proverbs capture Mary Elizabeth William's and most of our culture's mindset in these words:

Proverbs 30:11-14

There is a generation that curses its father,
And does not bless its mother.
[12] There is a generation that is pure in its own eyes,
Yet is not washed from its filthiness.
[13] There is a generation--oh, how lofty are their eyes!
And their eyelids are lifted up.
[14] There is a generation whose teeth are like swords,
And whose fangs are like knives,
To devour the poor from off the earth,
And the needy from among men.
