This year's Walsingham witness took place on Monday 31st of May. Nearly thirty people were there to uphold the Banner of Truth once more. The day was cold and damp, but that did not deter those witnessing as Biblical truth was preached clearly and distinctly, the errors of Mariolatry clearly denounced in the light of Scripture.
Many listened and many took tracts. There was, also, a goodly number of person to person conversations. It was brought home to us, more clearly than ever, how the god of this world has blinded their eyes. Even though people were challenged and pleaded with to search the Scriptures, they still clapped and cheered as the dolly was carried through the streets.
One of those who is there every year in the procession, and who is very friendly, came up and said that we must be having an effect as their numbers are going down. Their numbers are decreasing, but that is probably due to a number of reasons, not least defections to Rome. The number of those witnessing is decreasing also. Generally, it is the older Christians who are the most faithful. There were a number there who are in their seventies and many more in their sixties. Below that, numbers decline rapidly. We can draw our own conclusions as to why this is so.
As the morning session finished a man approached and was loud in his denunciation of the Protestants. He said he was disgusted by our intolerance. He said he was a member of the loyal orders and that he wore the Orange, Purple and Black. He was black all right, black as midnight in his soul. One wonders what sort of lodge he belongs to when he is so ignorant of Biblical truth.
One of those engaged in conversation was a Baptist minister from London. He was friendly with the vicar in his area and had run him and a number of his parishioners up to Walsingham in his church minibus. What foolishness!
Anyway, all returned home rejoicing that the truth went out to hundreds of those who walk in darkness, trusting that God will do what only He can do. It is a great privilege to have the liberty that we do have to stand up for Biblical Truth in the midst of such darkness.
