We know the wickedness of Sodom and Gomorrah, we know the evil that was prevalent and the sickness that had so corrupted the cities and all who lived in them. We see the intention of God to destroy them for their wickedness and we see the intercession of Abraham on their behalf… but we need to see some context. Firstly, God was not bound to accept the judgement of Abraham regarding His actions. The question Abraham asks is presumptuous at best. He uses human standards of what is right for the judge of all the earth to do or not to do, and we really ought not think in this way. The fact of the matter is this: God is free to do all that He wishes, for reasons that He can explain, or for reasons that He chooses NOT to explain and understand this fact - HE IS RIGHT either way!! The judge of all the earth ALWAYS does what is right regardless of what WE think about what He says is right! But God allows the question to teach us this very fact, He will do what is right and what is good and He will not be wicked or evil in this ever!! Abraham was discovering just who God was, and what is more, understand that God was willing to relent from the punishment of the entire evil region for the sake of 50, and ultimately for 10 even… so in this fact is great hope for this troubled land! God might not punish and destroy if there are but 50 righteous in all the land, He might extend mercy! Therefore our calling is clear beloved, let US be those 50 righteous in all the land and let US then turn back the flood of evil that plagues our nation. May God grant US strength to stand for truth, to defend the helpless and to see the day of mercy lavished upon even the wicked for the sake of the few righteous! Be the righteous in the land and let God be honored in you!!!
