THREE INCOMPREHENSIBLE TRUTHS

There are three truths that never cease to amaze me.

1. That God the Father would choose to save a sinner like me through the sacrifice of His only begotten Son.
2. That the Lord Jesus Christ would love a sinner like me enough to die the death that I deserve because of my sin.
3. That God the Holy Spirit would give a sinner like me spiritual life, faith in Christ, and a love for Christ.

These three truths go far beyond my understanding and they keep me continually seeking Christ and worshipping Him.

Every believer knows that no good thing can possibly exist in, or come from, our sinful flesh. But every believer also knows that God the Holy Spirit has caused a new man to be born in us who is holy, who loves and believes God. So there never will be any good thing done by me, but God sure has put a good thing in me. That is a mystery to the flesh, but everyone who has been born of God knows exactly what I am talking about.

Human religion speaks of Providence as an interruption of the natural course of things, when in fact, Providence is the natural course of everything. Everything is Providential.

Complex but Not Complicated

Complex means consisting of many different and connected parts. God uses the whole Bible to declare His Gospel. It cannot be whittled down to a few phrases or clichés`. But it is not complicated. It is simple. The Bible is the inspired Word of God. God is absolutely sovereign in all things. Men are totally depraved and totally unable to save themselves. God before time began chose who He would save. Christ actually saved those people by His life, death, and resurrection. Grace actually saves. The one evidence that God elected you, Christ died for you, and the Holy Spirit has given you life by His grace is if you persevere all the way to the end, looking to Christ only. Every statement is simple and easy to understand. You may not like it, but you understand it. Call any of these statements into question and you fall into a maze of complications and contradictions. I am so thankful for the simplicity of Christ! Christ is All! Complex but not complicated!

Grace is to be Preferred to Gifts

If the gifts of miracles had continued in the church, they would have attracted the notice of people to the might and power of God in the physical realm rather than to His redemptive power and purpose through Christ in the spiritual realm of the heart. “Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, saith the Lord of hosts.”

The unusual gifts in the early church served as signs and credentials until the Scriptures were completed (Heb. 2:1-4). Grace is to be preferred to gifts.

Prepare Ye the Way of the LORD - Is. 40:3

John the Baptist was commanded to “Prepare the way of the Lord,” and every preacher of the Gospel does the same. To “prepare” means to turn, face, look, or regard and as John declared, “Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world,” he was exhorting men to look, by faith, unto Him who is God’s Lamb, the only One who can and has borne away the sin of the world, the sin of every one of His sheep given Him in electing grace…Jew and Gentile scattered throughout the world.
